The best Simple Mobile smartphones you can get

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra against the rocks

Founded in 2009, Simple Mobile is a US prepaid carrier operating on T-Mobile’s network. It doesn’t have as large of a customer base as T-Mobile, but the company has managed to activate a few million subscribers so far. As with other carriers, Simple Mobile lets you activate your own phone on its network. However, the carrier sells over 50 handsets to those who want them. With so many options available, we’ve rounded up the best Simple Mobile phones you can buy to save you some time.

Best Simple Mobile phones:

Editor’s note: We will update this list of the best Simple Mobile phones as new devices launch.

1. Samsung Galaxy S20 series

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra face profile times square

Samsung’s latest Galaxy S series consists of three phones: the Galaxy S20, S20 Plus, and S20 Ultra. The Ultra model offers the most of the three, sporting a large 6.9-inch display, as much as 16GB of RAM, and a triple-camera setup at the back (108MP+48MP+12MP) along with a ToF sensor. The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 865 chipset and packs a 5,000mAh battery.

The Galaxy S20 Plus is next in line, coming with a 6.7-inch display and triple-camera setup at the back featuring 64MP, 12MP, and 12MP shooters and a ToF camera. The phone packs a 4,500mAh battery and 12GB of RAM. It’s powered by the same chipset as the Ultra model.

The regular Galaxy S20 is very similar to the Plus model. The major differences are that it comes with a smaller 6.2-inch display, packs a smaller 4,000mAh battery, and lacks a ToF sensor. All three phones sports an in-display fingerprint scanner, an IP6 rating, and wireless charging. And no, none of them have a headphone jack.

2. Samsung Galaxy Note 10 series

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 -- Simple Mobile phone

Samsung did something different with its latest Galaxy Note series. Instead of just offering one device as in previous years, the company announced two of them last August. You have the regular Galaxy Note 10 and the pricier Galaxy Note 10 Plus, both of which are available at Simple Mobile. Samsung also unveiled the Galaxy Note 10 Lite at the beginning of the year, but the carrier isn’t selling it.

Opting for the Galaxy Note 10 Plus gets you more RAM and storage, a microSD card slot, a larger display with a higher resolution, a larger battery, and a time-of-flight (ToF) rear sensor. Otherwise, the Galaxy Note 10 and 10 Plus feature the same specs.

That means you get the Snapdragon 855 processor, an in-display fingerprint scanner, wireless charging, an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, and the updated S Pen. So even if you go with the smaller Galaxy Note 10, you still get a flagship-level smartphone, which fits better in your hand than the Galaxy Note 10 Plus.

3. Samsung Galaxy S10 series

best Simple Mobile phones -- Samsung Galaxy S10, S10 Plus, S10e

Last year was the first time Samsung introduced three Galaxy S phones: the Samsung Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, and Galaxy S10 Plus. For the most part, all three phones are the same. There’s the Snapdragon 855 processor, Super AMOLED displays, water and dust resistance, headphone jack, punch-hole selfie cameras, and Samsung’s One UI skin on top of Android 9 Pie, which can already be upgraded to Android 10.

The differences begin with the form factor. The Galaxy S10e is the smallest of the three, followed by the Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus. The Galaxy S10e and S10 only have one selfie camera, while the Galaxy S10 Plus features two. The displays on the Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus have higher resolutions than the one on the Galaxy S10e.

The Galaxy S10e gets by with two rear cameras and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, while the Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus feature three rear cameras and an in-display scanner. Finally, the Galaxy S10e features the smallest battery of the bunch, followed by the Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus.

4. Apple iPhone 11 series

iPhone 11 Pro Max from Simple Mobile

As much as we don’t like to admit it, we think the iPhone 11 Pro Max is a great phone. We also can’t ignore the fact that Apple holds over 40% of the US smartphone market. Thus, the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max are three of the best Simple Mobile phones you can get.

The differences boil down to the display, cameras, and battery. The iPhone 11 features the same LCD display as the iPhone XR, whereas the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max feature AMOLED displays with higher resolutions. Also, the iPhone 11 features two rear cameras, while the iPhone 11 Pro models have three rear cameras. Finally, the iPhone 11’s battery is larger than the iPhone 11 Pro’s and smaller than the iPhone 11 Pro Max’s.

Otherwise, all three phones are the same. That means you get the A13 Bionic processor, 4GB of RAM, water and dust resistance, wireless charging, a Lightning port instead of USB-C, and iOS 13 instead of Android 10. We’re not here to debate the merits of one operating system over another — each has its fans and detractors. If you’re happy with iOS, you’ll be happy with any of the new iPhones.

5. Samsung Galaxy S9 series

Simple Mobile phones

They’re around two-years old, but the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus remain great choices for those who want a Samsung smartphone and don’t want to make their wallets cry too much.

The main differences between the phones boil down to the display, battery, and cameras. The Galaxy S9’s display is smaller than the Galaxy S9 Plus’, though display resolution remains the same. Also, the Galaxy S9 features a smaller battery than the Galaxy S9 Plus. Finally, the Galaxy S9 has one rear camera, while the Galaxy S9 Plus has two.

That said, the two phones are identical otherwise. There’s the headphone jack, expandable storage, high-resolution Super AMOLED displays, USB-C, water and dust resistance, Snapdragon 845, and One UI on top of Android 9 Pie that’s upgradable to Android 10.

6. Samsung Galaxy Note 9

Galaxy Note 9

Unlike the Galaxy Note 10 and 10 Plus, the Note 9 still has a headphone jack. It also has an arguably more reliable fingerprint scanner and comes with a microSD slot that’s missing on the Note 10. It’s not the most powerful phone in the world, but it is still more than suitable for demanding users.

The handset comes with the Snapdragon 845 processor that delivers great performance and a 4,000mAh battery that’s bigger than what you get with most other phones. The two cameras at the back can capture good-looking images and there’s plenty of room to store them, as the phone comes with as much as 512GB of space. All these things combined make the Galaxy Note 9 one of the best Simple Mobile phones you can get.

7. Samsung Galaxy A50

Samsung Galaxy A50 rear panel

Continuing our theme of Samsung smartphones, the Galaxy A50 is part of the company’s revamped Galaxy A mid-range lineup.

Featuring a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display, the Galaxy A50 shows hints of a flagship. That’s thanks to the in-display fingerprint scanner, rear triple camera system, and large 4,000mAh battery. You’ll come back to Earth once you notice the Exynos 9610 processor and plastic body, but this is still a capable smartphone.

The Galaxy A50 is also one of the cheapest smartphones on this list. It’s a great option for those who don’t demand too much from their pocket-fitting computers.

8. Motorola Moto G6

motorola moto g6 review design cameras

The first and only Simple Mobile phone in this post to not come from Samsung or Apple is the Motorola Moto G6. Yes, it’s a bit old, but it’s still a great phone and won’t break the bank — it’s the cheapest one on this list.

There’s no AMOLED display, though the 5.7-inch LCD display is still nice. There’s also a front-facing fingerprint scanner, something we don’t really see anymore in smartphones. Something else we don’t see as often is the headphone jack, which sits next to the USB-C port.

The Snapdragon 450 processor and 3GB of RAM are nothing to write home about, but you can expand on the 32GB of internal storage. Finally, the 3,000mAh battery should give you a good bit of longevity considering the processor choice. If you’re not a super-demanding user and just want a phone for checking social media and watching cat videos on YouTube, the Moto G6 is a great option.
