The “Fantastic Beasts” series is back with a third movie, titled “The Secrets of Dumbledore.” The latest film in the “Harry Potter” spin-off franchise premiered in theaters on April 15.
An official streaming release date is still pending, but based on previous comments Warner Bros. has made, the movie is expected to play exclusively in theaters for 45 days before arriving on HBO Max.
“The Secrets of Dumbledore” is the direct sequel to “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” and the third entry in the “Fantastic Beasts” series. Eddie Redmayne returns as Newt Scamander, a shy wizard employed by the Ministry of Magic, and Jude Law reprises his role as a young Albus Dumbledore. Several years after the events of the last movie, Newt Scamander and his companions are given a critical mission to stop the dark wizard Grindelwald’s army.

Other returning cast members include Ezra Miller as Credence Barebone, Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski, and Alison Sudol as Queenie Goldstein. After Johnny Depp was asked to resign from the role of Grindelwald, Mads Mikkelsen was cast to play the character. As of April 15, “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” has a 51% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

When will ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore’ be available on HBO Max?
“Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” is expected to be released on HBO Max. 45 days after its theatrical premiere. If this release strategy holds true, the movie will start streaming on HBO Max on May 30.
The 45-day release window for new Warner Bros. movies was mentioned by former WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar during an episode of Vox’s ReCode podcast. Warner’s first major release of 2022, “The Batman,” has already followed this strategy. “The Batman” premiered exclusively in theaters on March 4, and will hit HBO Max 45 days later on April 18.
That said, it’s important to note that HBO has not officially confirmed the streaming release date for “Secrets of Dumbledore” yet and the studio could always shift its plan.
Once “Secrets of Dumbledore” premieres on HBO Max., all subscribers will be able to watch the film. HBO Max subscriptions cost $10 a month for ad-supported streaming and $15 a month for ad-free streaming.
